What would happen to the learning curve in your school if everyone joined forces with an A-Team of award-winning, nationally-recognized nonfiction authors in a school-wide project that promotes the joy of learning? This is the passion of Authors on Call. Their enthusiasm is contagious…bet you can catch it!
And can reading these authors’ amazing books, sharing their depth of knowledge, and including their innovative ideas help you raise your students’ test scores? Bet you can do it! After all, it’s often the authors’ own books that are excerpted on the assessment tests.
Authors on Call can collaborate with your teachers and students via a series of live, interactive videoconferences so that together, everyone is fully immersed in the joy of learning.

Authors on Call® |
 |
|
| Let Authors on Call introduce you to some of America’s most talented, informative, and entertaining authors. They write the books kids love to read about the subjects you are required to teach. Their books are tied directly to National Education Standards, and their writing is far more accurate—and far more memorable—than any textbook on the market. They are ready to share their love of learning with you and to help integrate their extraordinary books into your classroom curriculum. |

Here’s How Our Program Works |
|
| Together, educators will engage in a series of Professional Development sessions with Authors on Call designed to unleash teacher creativity and to brainstorm classroom strategies for using our books. Each session will be delivered after the teachers have read a given book and shortly before they use the material with their students. After these students have read the books, our authors will meet with the class to go over their comments and answer questions. Just as they do at a conventional event, the authors will illustrate their points or enhance their stories with visuals and projected images. |

And it’s Affordable! |
|
Our programs are school-wide project-based experiences that take cost-effective advantage of interactive videoconferencing. The sample program we outline on the next page for a school of 500 students would cost $50 per student and would give your school:
- Eleven hours of just-in-time professional development for your staff presented by nine authors, our children’s literature consultant, and our literacy consultant.
- Nine hours of students’ face-to-face interaction with authors to discuss questions and comments about the books they’ve read.
- 100 books apiece of nine different titles, one from each author (A total of 900 books, equaling about 3 classroom sets)
- A written record of your entire learning experience as recorded on a wiki during the period when the books are being used, and including comments by teachers, authors, and consultants.
Our program can be funded by grants for technology (for the videoconferencing), for professional development, and for literacy. This investment will have a residual effect for years to come.
All Authors on Call are professional public speakers with national reputations for inspiring and informing audiences. They also offer keynote addresses, teacher in-services, panel discussions and virtual assembly programs for children via live videoconferencing at a fraction of the cost of an in-person visit.
